Hojin Chung completed his Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at Hanyang University in Seoul, where he studied under Locky Chung. He later moved to Germany to pursue a Master’s degree in Opera Performance at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln (HfMT Köln), studying with Gideon Poppe.
He is currently a member of the Opernstudio at Landestheater Detmold, where he is actively performing during the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons. His roles at the house include the 2nd Geharnischter in W. A. Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Alidoro in G. Rossini’s La Cenerentola, Billy Jackrabbit in G. Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West, Marquis d’Obigny in G. Verdi’s La Traviata, and Don Alvaro in G. Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims. He is also scheduled to appear as Adelhart in C.M. von Weber’s Silvana at the Landesbühnen Sachsen.
Prior to his studies in Germany, Chung gained valuable stage experience performing roles such as Masetto in Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Sparafucile in Verdi’s Rigoletto. In Germany, he has appeared as Taddeo in G. Paisiello’s Il Re Teodoro in Venezia and Don Artabano in D. Cimarosa’s Le Trame deluse, further expanding a versatile repertoire that spans the Classical and Romantic periods as well as contemporary works.
Hojin Chung continues to broaden his artistic presence across Europe and is recognized for his grounded bass timbre and refined musical interpretation.
